This document describes some of the new features, enhancements, and operational changes that have been incorporated into DataQE at Version 5.1.
- A new License Manager has been implemented for V5.1; V5.1 will require activation (using a new activation code) for all users, even if a previous version of DataQE had already been activated on the same system.
- DataQE V5.1 is now supported only on ArcGIS V10. If you have not yet migrated to ArcGIS 10, DataQE V5.0 is still supported for use on ArcGIS 9.3.x. If you already have V5.0 installed for ArcGIS 9.3.x, reinstallation using an updated installer is required in order to access the new licensing system.
- The Rule Set Explorer’s right-click context menu contains a new tool named Auto-Assign Rule Sets, which will allow you to automatically assign Rule Sets to currently loaded Data Sources that have the same name. This tool is very useful for working with Folders that contain Rule Sets that have been named to match the Data Sources they are intended to run against; by clicking this tool, you can quickly assign each Rule Set in the Folder to its matching Data Source name in the Data Sources window.
- When viewing the results grid in the Evaluation Results window, with the Highlight Features in Map option turned on, you can now double click a row to zoom the map to the selected row. Similarly, if you select multiple rows in the Results window, you can right click the results and choose the Zoom to Selected Features option to zoom the map to the selected rows.
- When using the Import Field Rules from Existing Data Source or Import
Field Rules from Existing Map Layer tools to import fields from a geodatabase feature
class, if a field has a domain associated with it in the geodatabase, then the domain
information will be imported as well and will be automatically assigned to the imported Field
Rule. If the domain is a Range domain, a Valid Range check will be assigned to the Field
Rule, with the minimum and maximum range values taken from the domain. If the domain is a
Coded Value domain, then the domain will be converted to an LOV in the DataQE Rule Set, and
the LOV will be automatically assigned to the Field Rule that is created.
- The Create LOV’s from Existing Data tool now supports direct import of LOV’s from coded-value domains stored in a geodatabase. Simply load at least one feature class from the geodatabase into an ArcMap session, and DataQE will be able to access each of the domains stored in that geodatabase for conversion to LOV’s.
- When cells contain more text than can be displayed, hovering the cursor over the cell will display the entire contents of the cell.
- Long text strings can now be wrapped within the cells of the Evaluation Manager grid. A new option, named Wrap Text, can be set using the grid’s right-click context menu (default values can be set using the Options screen); when selected, this option will cause text that extends beyond the grid cell boundary to be wrapped into multiple rows for better readability. Unchecking this option will return the grid to single-line rows with unwrapped text.
- In previous versions, evaluation definitions could not be saved to an EDC file if any of the rows failed the validation checks. In V5.1, this has been modified so that only the rows that pass the validation checks will be saved into the specified EDC file.
- A new tab has been added to the Properties window, named “Validation”. This tab allows you to initiate a validation operation on one or more selected rows within the grid, and displays the results in an easy to read format. This tab replaces the “View Validation Results” menu item that was previously available from the evaluation grid’s right-click context menu.
- A new option named “Change Path Only” has been added when setting the Result File Path and Filename on the Properties tab. When this option is selected, only changes to the Result File Path will be updated for the selected rows – the existing file names will be left as is. This option will allow you to change the path for result files for multiple rows in the grid without affecting the filenames. For example, say you have an EVL file that has 20 evaluations in it, all with different Result File names, and you need to change the Result File Path for each row. By checking the Change Path Only option, you can select all 20 rows at once and specify a new location for the result files, without affecting any of the filenames that have already been established.
- A new button has been added to the Properties tab named “View Expanded Properties”; clicking this button will display a popup window that shows an expanded list of properties for the currently selected evaluation definition, providing more detail about the evaluation than the core information that is available from the Properties tab itself.
- The colors within the Evaluations grid can now be controlled in the same way as other grids within DataQE, using the Color Settings tab of the Options screen.
Evaluation Options
- A new option, named “Auto-Assign Rule Sets to Matching Data Sources”, has been added.
Checking this option will place DataQE into “Auto-Assign” mode; when operating in this mode,
clicking on any Folder in the Rule Set Explorer will cause any Rule Sets in that folder with
names that match a currently loaded Data Source to be automatically assigned to that Data
Source. If you have built your Rule Set library so that the names match the names of the
Data Sources they are intended to run against, this mode can be a tremendous time saver;
each time you navigate to a new Folder, the Rule Sets in that Folder will be automatically
assigned to their appropriate Data Source.
Note: Use caution when using Auto-Assign mode if you have not created your Rule Set library to match the names of your Data Sources. If you are using Auto-Assign mode and click on a Folder that does not contain Rule Sets with matching names, any previous assignments that you may have made will be cleared.
Color Settings Options
- The “Color Settings” tab has been modified to allow changes to colors in the Evaluation Manager grid. As with any color changes, not all changes may take effect until DataQE is restarted.
Predefined Evaluation Options
- A new option for wrapping text has been added; this can be used to set the default value for Text Wrapping when the Evaluation Manager is opened. If checked, then Text Wrapping in the grid will be turned on by default when the Evaluation Manager opens. This value can be overridden by the Wrap Text context menu option while the Evaluation Manager is open, but the next time it is opened, it will return to the default value.
Custom List Options
- A new option category has been added in V5.1, named “Custom Lists”. Custom Lists allow you to customize some of the values used in dropdown lists within DataQE, giving you the ability to add, edit or remove the values used in these lists. In V5.1, you can use this functionality to manage the values that appear in the Authors list and the Valid Ranges list (used with the Valid Range Check). Other lists may be added in future versions.
License Settings
- A new option category has been added in V5.1, named “License Settings”. If you purchase an Enterprise DataQE license, this category allows you to switch over to the enterprise license file without any need to reinstall DataQE.
